  • Conversion of Teaching Hospital to

    The Atlas

    Project Type: Adaptive Reuse
    circa 1974 original construction; circa 2018 redevelopment

    Role:‍ ‍APMA Project Mgr. / Managing Partner

    Client / Contractor: Nustyle Development and Construction

    Total Project Size: over 1,000,000 SF in a single structure.‍ ‍Amenities include two pools, rooftop garden, 600 indoor parking stalls, pedestrian bridge across adjacent interstate highway to Creighton University.

    Conversion of a Teaching Hospital for Creighton University into a diverse mix of 732 units of market-rate multi-family housing. Creative structural revisions included the extension of light courts and the addition of two structural levels within the main body of the building.

  • Harvester Artspace Lofts

    Project Type: Historic and Low Income Tax Credit Project
    circa 1875 original construction; circa 2008 redevelopment.

    Role: APMA Project Manager / Architect

    Client: Artspace Projects

    Contractor: Lund-Ross Constructors

    Total Project Size: 72,500 SF building on 1.15 acres; Amenities include tenant gardens and potters shed, central community room / gallery space, and large utility sinks in lieu of vanities in apartment bathrooms.

    Renovation of one of two original International Harvester warehouses in Council Bluffs, Iowa. Artspace Projects of Minneapolis, MN developed this project as affordable multi-family housing geared toward artists. The renovation also included indoor parking, multi-use spaces, commercial bays, and a certain modern artistic flair. This project laid the groundwork for a fine arts center utilizing the other warehouse building.

  • Bayview

    Project Type: Historic and Low Income Tax Credit Project; circa 1887 original construction; circa 2000 redevelopment

    Role: APMA Project Mgr. / Project Architect

    Client / Contractor: NuStyle Development and Construction

    Total Project Size: just over 21,000 SF on three floors; rear play yard and parking on lower west side.

    The renovation of a historic structure in South Omaha. Authored my first National Register Nomination. Commercial space on the street level renovated as such; housing spanning the lowest, street, and upper levels to provide 12 units of affordable housing to the neighborhood, along with reduced-rent retail space.

  • Aberdeen Apartments

    Project Type: Historic and Low Income Tax Credit Project. circa 1952 original construction; circa 2016 redevelopment

    Role: APMA Project Mgr. / Managing Partner.

    Client / Contractor: Arch-Icon

    Total Project Size: Approx. 90,000 SF of building on 1.75 acres. Main amenity is a full half-court gym.

    Adaptive reuse of the Industrial Arts Annex to the Central High School in Sioux City, Iowa. The project utilized historic and low income tax credits as a portion of the financing needed. Modern affordable multi-family housing units were constructed within this mid-century industrial arts structure. The design team worked diligently with state and federal entities to ensure that indoor parking and the addition of residential units within the gymnasium space did not put funding at-risk.

  • Lied Lodge at Arbor Day Farm

    Project Type: New construction: state-of-the art conference center / hotel, 1991-1992 with a subsequent later addition

    Role: APMA Intern Architect / Interiors

    Client: National Arbor Day Foundation

    Contractor: Leuder Construction

    Project sited on the ridge overlooking the historic Morton cherry orchard.‍ ‍Amenities included conference and banquet facilities for 400-person conferences; indoor lap pool; wood-burning fireplaces, a variety of eight different wood species used in public area wainscots; a dining room, bar, and valley-view terrace.

    My first project out of college! Was honored to work with John Rosenow himself. Incredible, intense mentoring by Perry and Albert. A new structure meant to be crafted in the manner of historic National Park lodge structures. A wood boiler plant provides heating and cooling to the building. After the design drawings for construction were complete, a full interiors package was compiled to ensure the vision of trees first and the relation to the great lodges of National Parks was fully realized.

  • The Breakers

    Project Type: Adaptive Reuse
    circa 1898 - 1955 original construction; circa 2017 redevelopment

    Role: APMA Project Manager / Managing Partner.

    Client: NuStyle Development.

    Total Project Size: 236,000 SF renovated on 7.75 acres.‍ ‍Amenities include indoor parking, rooftop pool and wrap-around deck, central courtyard, and unique unit layouts celebrating the building’s history.

    Renovation of the original Omaha Power Plant (which had been decommissioned and vacant for over ten years prior to construction) into market-rate multi-family housing. What appeared to be a typical project site with a building on it was found to be a building shell atop an unbuildable parcel. The entirety of the site around the building was raised four feet and an entirely new structural skeleton was inserted within.
